This interview was done by email in September 2001. Most questions were gathered from the Coroner Message Board during the summer of 2001, where I asked the fans to post their suggestions.
I have decided not to edit the interview at all, so that you get the real thing -- 100% authentic! (keep in mind that Marky's first language is German and, except for a few mistakes here and there, his English is excellent and perfectly understandable.)
A big thanks to Marky for accepting to do this interview for the Coroner Page! All of us fans greatly appreciate!

| General Questions |
1. First, the question all the fans are holding their breath for: is there any chance at all of Coroner reuniting someday? (either as Coroner, or as a brand new band.) Is there any desire from you, Tommy and/or Ron in doing this?
Marky: to be honest, we never talked seriously about that. to me personally, it was always important to create something new, not warming up stuff i did in the past. on the other side i miss touring a lot, i'm sure tommy and ron as well. lets say, all three uf us are still best friends so everything is possible.
2. If you were to get back together, where do you think your musical tendencies would lean towards?
Marky: very hard to answer, cause i don't know what the other two members are into now. for myself, i would say it would be straighter to the point, kinda what we did on those the new peaces on "coroner". of course wouldn't hesitate using all new technologies to create the atmosphere we want to have.
3. Is there any chance that a VHS or DVD with live footage, interviews, reports, and/or the whole Coroner history will ever be released?
Marky: of course we recorded tonns of videos during those 10 years. the quality is in most cases very bad. but still, i think it could be interesting for people who are into coroner. if we wouldn't be such lazy fucks, it would be on the market since years...
4. Only one Coroner live video -- "No More color: Live in East Berlin" -- was ever released (and I seem to remember you guys didn't even agree to its release?) Why is that?
Marky: the problem w.live in east berlin was, that we did not have our own crew with us. everything sounded shity and especially the light guy didn't know what to do (of course, it was the first time he heard our music). we always wanted to have everything perfect. also we always liked to play in clubs not in big halls like the ond in east berlin. so all in all we just didn't felt comfortable. we would have done it way different, darker...
5. What is the origin of the dialogue at the end of "Shifter?"
6. Who is the little girl talking with Ron at the beginning of "Gliding Above While Being Below?"
Marky: q.5 and 6: i can't tell you right now. 1st i dont have the album at home (belive it ore not) and 2nd we had tons af little cuts and peaces from movies and documentries we worked with so i simply don't remember.sorry.
7. What has been your favorite gig?
Marky: one i always remember was the last show of our us-tour 91 at the "stone" in san francisco. great audience, great venue everything was perfect. but there is too many great nights we had all over the world...
8. What was the reason behind the rather quiet departure from Apollyon Sun? The usual case of "creative differences" or something else?
Marky: well in general, things were taking too long for my tast. besides that i felt more and more that we had choosen the wrong management and record company for the music we did. tom and erol have just finished a new demo-cd.i haven't heard the songs yet, but i wish em all the best for theyre future w. apollyon sun.
9. What did you do between the break-up of Coroner and now? What was your best experience during that time?
Marky: im very much involved in the techno-scene. might sound shocking for some of our fans. but i'm into electronic music eversince many years. but don't worry, you won't find me wearing white gloves and a gasmask on some idiot-rave. so what i really enjoined was a couple of concerts we did with a new project i've started called "spoo" in tokyo this spring. i always dreamed to play there, now it finally happend...
10. Are you currently playing with a band?
Marky: a project called" supreme psychedelic underground " or just "spoo"
11. What are your short-term and long-term plans?
Marky: music in general. maybe more hard core, maybe electronic i don't know...
12. It seems that your musical tastes are rather eclectic. What kind of music do you listen to the most nowadays? Any favorite bands?
Marky: i like christian vogel or super-collider a lot. john sellway is super-cool. ricardo villalobos is doing very nice stuff uhhh, there is too many. if i listen to guitar music i still adore queens of the stone age. theyre 1st album is beyond...also soulfly are ripping, i just saw them live 2 weeks ago, it was killer...
13. Do you still like the style of music you were playing with Coroner, or have you lost interest for this type of music, or metal in general?
Marky: i'm still into everything that is brutal. but by now i really hate melodic metal. i can't take it serious, it's too pathetic...
14. What is your opinion about the metal scene nowadays?
Marky: i did not follow, so i don't know.
15. And the music business in general?
Marky: a big machinery, boring. thank good there is an underground...
16. Who and/or what inspired you to play drums?
Marky: my first girlfriend, who needed a dork playing along to her, lets call it "strange" guitarplay...
17. How old were you when you got your first drum kit? How did you get started?
Marky: i had a totally rotten 3-peace drumset a school-friend of mine left at our house. pretty soon i had to leave the house and move to a bunker for playing drums, my parents were on the edge withe their nervs. later i rented i cheap drum-set. then i bougth my first drumkit. 14 peace tama w. double-kick. of course i could never use the whole kid, but it looked great, like peter crisses or alex van halens. after that i switched to an very old ludwig set. big kicks 26' just like bonham. it was also second hand. i never possesed a new drumkid.
18. Do you have any favorite drummer? Someone your really admire for their skills?
Marky: steward copeland kills and of course john bonham
19. Have you maintained contact/friendship over the years with the other guys (Tommy and Ron) since the split?
Marky: of course. i think we're better friends than ever before, so thats why we might come back together one day...
Marky: here i would like to thank all the fans around the world for being so loyal all these years. thanks!
